L-3 Communications‘ KEO subsidiary is producing a system to lift sensors aboard the U.S. Navy‘s Virginia-class submarines.
The Defense Department said Kollmorgen Electro-Optical will produce 16 Universal Modular Masts and provide 142,000 hours of engineering services under a $27,473,565 contract.
L-3 acquired KEO in February from Danaher Corp. for $210 million (our sister site GovCon Wire has more on that transaction here).
According to the Pentagon, the masts serve as a lifting mechanism for the High Data Rate Mast, Photonics Mast Program, Multi-Functional Modular Mast, Multi-Functional Mast and Integrated Electronic Signal Monitoring Mast.
The contract includes options to elevate the total to $54.9 million if exercised, and work will occur in Italy and Northampton, Mass. through November 2015.
