Microsoft Adding Bing Search Tools To Office

microsoft-logoMicrosoft is releasing five new Bing applications for its Office 2013 and Office 365 product lines, Information Week reports.

Michael Endler writes Microsoft aimed to aimed to add search functionality into Word and Excel, similar to other Bing tools available on the Xbox, Windows Phone and Windows 8 platforms.

Users pay perpetual fees in exchange for cloud functionality, license flexibility and access to the latest releases, according to the report.

The new apps include Bing Maps for Office, intended for Excel users to plot location data onto live and interactive Bing maps, and Bing Finance for Office, a beta product for creating finance portfolio tables in Excel.

Bing News Search for Office is designed for searching for news and videos within Word documents, Bing Dictionary for Office includes new spellings and definitions in Word’s spell check tools.

The fifth app is Bing Image Search for Office, which Endler writes provides users a search box and text selection tool for starting a web search from Word.
