Harris To Study USAF Weather System Updates; Romy Olaisen Comments
Harris Corp. has won a U.S. Air Force contract for an unspecified amount to help update the U.S. Defense Meteorological Satellite Program.
The Space and Missile Systems Center’s defense weather systems directorate selected the company to evaluate existing DMSP space and ground assets, Harris said Wednesday.
Evaluations will aim to address compatibility and transition issues, cutover of operations, sustainment impacts, minimizing of disruptions to operations and security accreditation implications.
Harris will also aim to form development plans on how these assets can be transformed into the Weather Satellite Follow-on program by taking into account account information assurance, scalability and net-centric data strategies.
Romy Olaisen, Harris vice president for environmental systems in the government communications systems segment, said the company will aim to apply its experience in satellite data processing, command and control and automated distribution in providing warfighters weather information.
