During a Hack in the Box conference in Amsterdam last week, a planned ATM hacking presentation was canceled because of legal pressures from vendors.

Ex-Convict Turns in ATM Hacker

Federal prosecutors allege that a man who to steal around $350,000 by hacking automated teller machines was turned in to the authorities by an ex-convict, The Register reports.

Thor Alexander Morris of North Carolina approached an ex-con in Texas for help in identifying ATM model locations that would be particularly vulnerable to attack. Morris allegedly planned to tamper with the machines to cause them to overpay him.

Bulgarians Charged in ATM Hacking Case

Three Bulgarians were charged yesterday in connection with an ATM hacking case that occurred over a 44 day period. The suspects allegedly planted electronic skimming devices on a number of ATMs in Massachusetts, making off with more than $137,000, according to an article on The Register.
