NIST Role in Cyber Security Could Expand

A bill cleared a House subcommittee yesterday that could alter the role that the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) will play in cyber security. Members of the House of Representatives called for a comprehensive review of cyber security policies for Congress on Friday. Government Cyber Spending to Increase Drastically

According to research conducted by the analytic firm Input, government spending on cyber security will increase at a compound rate of 8.1 percent between 2009 and 2014. Funding for contracted work will increase $3.8 billion from 2009 to 2014.

Bill to Increase DHS Funding for Cyber

Congress has approved a bill increasing the Department of Homeland Security’s budget by 6.6 percent for 2010. The bill includes an 27 percent increase for cyber security.

Subcommittee Approves Bill to Increase Cybersecurity Capability

A bill to increase research and funding for cyber security was passed unanimously by the House Science Research Subcommittee.

The bill requires DoD, NSF and DHS to develop programs to increase cybersecurity research and to authorize and grant funding for cybersecurity training.

Cybersecurity Experts: Government’s Role in Cybersecurity Needs Expansion

Experts from across industry and academia told a house subcommittee today that the government’s role in cybersecurity research, development, and education needs to be expanded and improved.

Cybersecurity experts told the House Science and Technology Committee’s Research and Science Education Subcommittee that government-funded cybersecurity R&D programs and interface with the private sector with respect to those projects should be enhanced.
